“Canny”

Good, nice, decent, lovely. The all-purpose Geordie positive word. “She’s a canny lass.” “That’s canny good.” “Had a canny night.” It’s the Geordie equivalent of a thumbs-up, but warmer. If something is canny, it’s alright.

“Hyem Sweet Hyem”

Home sweet home. “Hyem” is the Geordie word for home, direct from the Old Norse “heimr”  a word the Vikings brought to the North East over a thousand years ago. It’s the warmest welcome there is, in the oldest language we’ve got.
